Branford Boys Soccer in Championship
The Branford boys soccer team will play for the championship on Saturday vs. Avon.
Perhaps the most challenging part of watching a game is actually being a fan. Players are always ready to go, even on the bench. For a fan, having to watch and not being able to affect the game is excruciating. I don’t even have a child to root for, or berate an ump / referee for not getting the call right. I played for the Hornets awhile ago (1995-1998). Watching them as their season winds down is excruciating.
The soccer team did their part, taking an early 1-0 lead. Surely there would be more scoring-no way could a goal in the first few minutes standup for the entire game. What was especially hard was watching the clock tick down towards 0:00 and willing time to expire while the team faced down Barlow. They were able to make it happen, through some exceptional plays by their sweeper.
Beyond the powerless feeling of not being able to run out and kick the ball comes the feeling of pride. The teams I was on routinely finished under .500. Paul Hunter has done a masterful job of building a team the town can feel proud of.
