Branford Legend Bill O'Brien's Photography Work To Be Showcased

The exhibit began Thursday, July 16, but continues on Friday, July 17 and Saturday, July 18.

BACA is thrilled to be given the opportunity to sponsor exhibits and performances at the Academy, an historic building and venue on the Branford green.

We’re getting off to an exciting start this summer with three exhibitions of Branford photographers, the opening of each to coincide with the Thursday evening Jazz festivals on the green.

The first show will feature the work of Bill O’Brien, a Branford resident and resident photographer for over 4 decades.

Bill O’Brien

Bill O’Brien is a native of New Haven who moved to Branford in 1969. He attended Notre Dame High School 58’ and Quinnipiac College 62’. He was in the banking business for 43 years retiring in 2005. He started taking photographs in the early 70’s when the former Branford Review couldn’t provide a photographer for an event he was involved in. He took the pictures himself and it launched his interest in the hobby.

In the mid 80’s he was asked to help a friend take pictures at Yale football games and from that developed a great interest in sports photography that he still does. He covers high school and college sports and had covered every sport from tennis to road races. He is not limited to sports photography and has many scenic photos of places he and his wife Maureen have visited both here and abroad.

He loves the small town beauty of Branford and has taken numerous photos of such things as the Academy on the Green, Thimble Islands, town Green and the Blackstone Library. He covers the Branford sports teams as well as the musical programs and plays of the high school choral group. He has photographed the Festival and the Branford Jazz Series for many years.
