UPDATE: Braving Frigid, Icy Waters, Firefighters Rescue Injured Goose Trapped In Ice At Branford Point
Firefighters donned ice rescue suits once it was clear the goose was stuck, then carefully navigated icy conditions, rescuing the gander.

BRANFORD, CT—Sadly, Patch learned late Tuesday afternoon from Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter director Laura Burban that the goose did not survive its ordeal. But we bet the goose was grateful for the help.

In a Facebook post Monday, Branford Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 2533 shared, in words and photos, how it worked to rescue a Canada goose, injured from being frozen in the ice, off Branford Point.
"Earlier today, members of Division 2 were dispatched to the area of Branford Point for a report of a goose possibly in distress and stuck in the ice.

Upon arrival, members deployed the department drone to assess the situation and confirmed that the goose was unable to free itself and appeared injured. Based on the assessment, two firefighters dressed into Ice Rescue suits and carefully navigated the icy conditions to reach the animal.
Firefighters safely removed the goose from the ice and confirmed it was injured and in need of care.
Members remained on the scene until Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter arrived and took possession of the goose to provide further medical treatment.
Great work by Division 2 demonstrating the commitment to protecting all members of our community—even our feathered ones."
Patch has reached out to DCAs to get an update on the goose's condition. This post may be updated.
Trapped in the ice, the pictures of the rescue are worth, in this case, thousands of words:
