Connecticut declared a major disaster area by FEMA after request by Gov. Lamont
Early Sunday, Lamont said the Federal Emergency Management Agency approved his request for a Major Disaster Declaration in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The move unlocks additional federal assistance programs for the state.
Lamont said the approval is for public assistance, meaning that impacted state agencies and municipalities in all eight counties will be reimbursed for 75 percent of the costs associated with their response and emergency protective measures.
According to FEMA, the disaster declaration includes federal dollars for public assistance "for communities to quickly respond to and recover from major disasters or emergencies." It approves emergency work that "must be performed to reduce or eliminate an immediate threat to life, protect public health and safety, and to protect improved property that is significantly threatened."
CDC issues travel advisory for Connecticut
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, at the urging of President Donald Trump, issued a "domestic travel advisory" for New York, New Jersey and Connecticut in an attempt to stop the spread of the coronavirus.
The President and Vice President called last night to say there will be no further talk of mandatory quarantine/lockdown, rather a strict travel advisory, which reinforces what we are already doing in Connecticut. #COVIDー19
— Governor Ned Lamont (@GovNedLamont) March 29, 2020
The travel advisory means Connecticut residents shouldn't travel to other states for the next 14 days unless they are considered an "employee of critical infrastructure industries." The CDC said the "governors of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut will have full discretion to implement this Domestic Travel Advisory."

Lamont Sunday toured Guilford biomedical company producing ventilators
Lamont placed an order for 100 ventilators with Guilford manufacturing company Bio-Med Devices. On Sunday, he visited the headquarters of Bio-Med Devices, where he toured the manufacturing facility. Employees at the company have been working seven days a week to keep up with demand.
I'll be heading down to Guilford in a little bit to visit the HQ of @BioMed_Devices. The Connecticut manufacturing company makes ventilators, and I'll be signing a purchase order with them to buy more devices for our state's hospitals. Glad to partner with this company. #CTMade
— Governor Ned Lamont (@GovNedLamont) March 29, 2020
“We’re working every day to ensure that our state’s hospitals have access to the resources they need to keep our residents safe and healthy, and I am proud that we are partnering with a company like Bio-Med Devices that will provide our hospitals with a critical resource that we need at this time,” Lamont said.
