CT Coronavirus Updates: Nearly 10,000 Positive Cases, 380 Deaths
Gov. Ned Lamont said there's a 'glimmer of hope' since Fairfield County, the epicenter for the state, had one less hospitalization.

HARTFORD, CT — As of Thursday afternoon, there are 9,784 laboratory-confirmed cases of the new coronavirus, 1,464 people are hospitalized and there have been 380 laboratory-confirmed disease-associated deaths.
Since yesterday, that's an increase of 1,003 positive cases, 45 more deaths, 46 more hospitalized and another 1,802 tests done.
But Gov. Ned Lamont continued his hopeful tone citing that the number of hospitalizations is declining from what it had been recently and there was a net reduction of one in Fairfield County.

The number of new hospitalizations has consistently been around 80 to 100 a day and that number was much lower Thursday.
He said it's not a trend yet but it is a "glimmer of hope." He said it's possible Connecticut could be reaching a "peak."

Lamont said of the 3,000 total hospitalizations, 1,250 have been discharged representing 42 percent but he noted that "tragically 10 percent have died."
Here is a breakdown of cases and deaths by county:
- Fairfield County 4,882 cases; 178 deaths
- Hartford County 1,471 cases; 75 deaths
- Litchfield County 315 cases; 13 deaths
- Middlesex County 205 cases; 14 deaths
- New Haven County 2,183 cases; 78 deaths
- New London County 139 cases; 6 deaths
- Tolland County 145 cases; 13 deaths
- Windham County 52 cases; 1 death

Of the 380 reported deaths, 204 involve people over the age of 80; 91 are between the ages of 70 and 79; 53 are between the ages of 60 and 69; 17 are between the ages of 50 and 59; 10 are between the ages of 40 and 49; 3 are between the ages of 30 and 39; 1 between the ages of 20 and 29; and one newborn. Of the 380 deaths, 220 are men and 158 are women.
