Robin Comey is urging policymakers to boost Connecticut's Early Literacy Fund in the wake of Dolly Parton's passing, spotlighting programs like Read to Grow in Branford and Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. She says sustained state investment in early literacy, including teacher coaching and evidence-based reading instruction, is essential to give every Connecticut child a strong start before they ever enter a Branford or other classroom.

Farm Among 22 New Businesses Registered In Branford In August (patch.com) — Branford saw 22 new businesses register with the state in August, including ACDC Farm, a new jewelry venture called Coastal Pearl, and Jalapeño Heaven 2, a full-service restaurant. All of the new ventures organized as LLCs, signaling continued entrepreneurial activity and potential new services and jobs for Branford residents as these businesses move from paperwork to opening their doors.

Branford Historical Society Named September Beneficiary of Stop & Shop's Community Bag Program (patch.com) — All month long, every $2.50 Community Bag you buy at the Leetes Island Road Stop & Shop in Branford sends $1 to the Branford Historical Society. Those donations will help maintain the Harrison House Museum and support fall exhibits and educational programs, making it an easy way for residents to back local history while shopping.
   

4. Two 14-Year-Old's Arrested, Charged In Motor Vehicle Theft Investigation: Branford Police (patch.com) — Branford police say two 14-year-olds were arrested after a suspicious car was reported abandoned at All Pets Club on East Main Street and found to be stolen and damaged. A follow-up search led officers to a nearby motel, where they also discovered a second stolen vehicle, and both juveniles were sent to the Bridgeport Juvenile Detention Center.
   

5. Branford Firefighters, Medics Respond to Car-Over-Seawall On Linden Avenue Thursday (patch.com) — Branford firefighters and medics rescued a driver after a vehicle went over the seawall on Linden Avenue Thursday afternoon, safely removing the person and sending them to a local hospital for evaluation. Crews confirmed no fluids leaked into Long Island Sound and urged shoreline motorists to use extra caution near seawalls and steep drop-offs.
