Dangling Seagull Whose Leg Was Tangled In Live Wires Rescued
An Eversource worker as animal-in-crisis first responder. Who knew?
BRANFORD, CT — A gull whose leg was tangled in live utility wires was rescued by an Eversource worker on a cherry-picker Sunday. Sadly, the bird's leg was badly damaged. But, as Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter director Laura Burban noted, at least the bird did not have to continue to dangle overnight.
Here's what happened:
"We want to give a great big shout out to Mike from Eversource CT for coming out to help us today with a seagull stuck in wires call. Mike was so kind with this bird and spoke so softly to him as he freed his leg.

This poor bird had his leg completely entangled in the wires and had been hanging upside down and could not free himself. As you can imagine, drivers passing by that saw the poor bird struggling were completely distraught.
However, when live wires are involved, both Animal Control and the Fire Department cannot assist. But we also want to thank our awesome Branford Fire Department for coming out and always being there to assist with unusual animal calls. Part of what all of our departments do to protect the public is to ensure that situations like these do not cause an accident with people blocking up the roadways or by residents trying to climb a ladder themselves to free this bird .

Unfortunately, it looks like this bird's leg is far too damaged to save, but at least he will not be dangling upside down overnight.
We are grateful to live in a community where everyone cares so deeply about our furry, feathered and scaly friends!"
