Family of Branford Doctor Murdered in 2010 Say Trial Against Suspect Needs to Begin
The case against the suspect has been delayed due to a string of pretrial hearings.

The family of the Branford doctor who was shot nearly five years ago in front of his Branford home has asked that the trial of the defendant be scheduled as soon as possible, the New Haven Register reports.
Dr. Lishan Wang, 48, shot Dr. Vajinder Toor, 34, outside his home in April 2010 and attempted to shoot his wife, who was pregnant at the time.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Toor’s younger brother, Tajinder Toor, sent a letter to Superior Court Judge Patrick J. Clifford saying the family feels that this is a more than reasonable time period to expect justice, the paper reports.

Wang, who has insisted on representing himself, has been under arrest since the day of the crime and has been held in lieu of $900,000 bail. According to the paper, the legal proceedings have been delayed due to Wang’s many motions and the question of who would pay for the experts Wang would need for his trial.
A State Supreme Court decision earlier this year allowed Wang the right to use public defender funding to hire experts and an investigator for his upcoming trial.

The case will be transferred to Superior Court Judge Thomas V. O’Keefe Jr., who will preside over the trial.
Standby counsel for Wang, Attorney Jeffrey LaPierre told the Register a Spring start for the trial would be the earliest he expects the proceedings to begin.
