Former Longtime North Branford Classroom Teacher, Recent Area School Administrator, Named Murphy Principal
Branford Board of Education names 20-year educator Lauren Barry as Principal of Mary T. Murphy Elementary School.

The Branford Board of Education is proud to announce the appointment of Ms. Lauren Barry as Principal of Mary T. Murphy Elementary School.
Ms. Barry brings nearly 20 years of experience in education to Branford Public Schools.

Most recently, she served as assistant principal of Woodside Intermediate School in Cromwell.
Before becoming an administrator, Ms. Barry spent 16 years as a classroom teacher in North Branford, working with students across a variety of grade levels.

Throughout her career, she has demonstrated a deep commitment to building strong school communities and creating a positive culture where students, staff, and families feel connected and supported. Her leadership has focused on strengthening the partnership between home and school, expanding opportunities for student enrichment, and building meaningful relationships with families.
Ms. Barry is equally committed to high-quality teaching and learning. As a school leader, she has worked to strengthen student intervention practices, collaborated closely with student services, and supported educators through clear, consistent, and actionable feedback.
Ms. Barry shared her enthusiasm about joining the Murphy community.
"The Branford community is a truly special place, and I am honored to serve as the principal of Mary T. Murphy School. I look forward to building meaningful relationships with students, staff, families, and the community as a whole. Mary T. Murphy is a school where every individual is valued and celebrated," Barry said. "I am excited to carry on that tradition while working alongside the school community to help every student grow as a creative thinker, future leader, and lifelong learner."
Ms. Barry earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Muhlenberg College and a Master of Science in Inclusion Education from the University of New England. She earned her administrative certification from Southern Connecticut State University.
"There are moments when the right person emerges as the clear fit for a school community, and Lauren is that person for Murphy," Superintendent Christopher Tranberg said. "Her experience, genuine care for students and families, and ability to bring people together stood out throughout the process. Most importantly, Lauren leads with the combination of high expectations and kindness that our students, staff, and families deserve. I am confident her leadership will build on Murphy’s strengths and help lead the school into an even brighter future."
