Frightened, Frostbitten, Covered In Sores, Dog Found On Rt 1, Rescued
So commonplace are these heartbreaking stories from Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter that one wonders why some folks get pets to begin with.

BRANFORD, CT — Shelter workers have named her Sadie. Discovered roaming on Rt. 1 in Branford, she had no collar, no chip, so no way to identify her. But it's clear she's been left on her own for some time.
It seems like every week we do a post like this one. What looks to be another heartbreaking story of neglect, and possible abuse, of a dog. If it's hard for us, imagine the toll it takes on the Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter staff and volunteers.

"This poor baby was found roaming down RTE 1 in Branford. She has sores all over her body. She is tinged a yellow color, most likely from sitting in her own urine. She is very underweight. She has fly strikes or frost bite on the tips of her ears, as if she was kept/crated outside. And, she is extremely frightened," DCAS wrote.
A tragic story that has been repeated ad nauseam.

"She will be going to receive medical care, and we will obviously be feeding her small regular meals to begin putting weight on her," shelter staff wrote. "We have named her Sadie."
