'Hope' Receives Great News In Her Recovery

The severely abused dog received some great news this week and Hope's recovery continues to inspire so many people.

(Editor's Note: For those of you who haven't been following the story of Hope, you've missed a lot. A month ago someone driving by saw a dog struggling to walk in Branford. She took the dog to the Dan Csogrove Animal Shelter and staff called it "one of the worst cases of animal cruelty" they had ever seen. Staff said the dog was starved and was a day or two away from death. Over the past month, shelter staff have cared for the dog around the clock and named it 'Hope.' A reward of $5,000 has been issued by PETA for information on who did this to 'Hope.' The shelter has been providing daily updates concerning Hope's recovery.)

Hi Everyone Here is the Hope Update for today!

Hope is doing awesome! Hope had a great weekend and is acting more like a normal dog now. She likes to play ball and she likes to play with toys. She also has been around cats, dogs and children and has done extremely well!

Bloodwork today revealed her liver values were nearing normal levels and that makes us very happy! Hope will still be on an extremely easily digestible diet for the next month to two months. She is still eating smaller meals at regular intervals too.

Hope has been such an inspiration to all of us! We are so proud of her and we are beyond thrilled that we have had the privilege of watching her overcome all of her setbacks. The goal for this week is to have Hope be released from the vets by the end of the week.

She will still require 2 to 3 vet visits per week but she would not require 24 hour care any longer (although the head nurse in charge of Hope’s care has offered to continue taking her home each night, so that will stay the same).

Once we get the go ahead from the Vets we will set up times where people can come see Hope and maybe even meet her at the shelter. Hope’s journey has been an amazing one, but she does have some fears when it comes to strangers. Some strangers she warms up to immediately and some she can be very fearful of. So we will work on that and let everyone know when that time will come.

For Now…..all we can say is YAY!! YAY!! YAY!! Hope is going to be ok and she is such a wonderful girl! We are so grateful for all of you who have followed Hope’s journey from the beginning and have supported her and us through this process!

We will update again on Wednesday and we will then reveal the Vets that have all been responsible for her care. 
