STONY CREEK, CT —Legacy Theatre is proud to announce its mainstage production of the acclaimed musical "The Last Five Years."

"The Last Five Years" was named one of TIME Magazine's ten best shows of 2001. This emotionally powerful and intimate musical ingeniously chronicles the five-year relationship between two New Yorkers: Cathy, a struggling actress, and Jamie, a budding novelist. The Last Five Years is told through an unconventional structure in which Cathy tells her story in reverse-chronological order (beginning the show at the end of their marriage), while Jamie's is told in chronological order (starting just after the couple has met for the first time).

The Last Five Years will run at Legacy Theatre from September 1st through September 26th, seven performances per week (Wednesdays through Sundays) for four weeks.

As a way of thanking the community for supporting the theatre during their inaugural season, all tickets to this stunning production will be $45. Student Rush tickets have also been made available for $10 at the box office with a valid student ID on the day of the performance.

The production features the direction of Keely Baisden Knudsen, Artistic Director of Legacy Theatre, who has shaped a nuanced yet powerful story.

“Working with these two passionate actors on this musical and watching their performances unfold beneath the blanket of an extraordinary lighting design has been such a magical process,” said Knudsen. “I am so proud of the honesty with which they sing their stories through time -- the mature themes of their relationship play gorgeously within our beautiful theater on the shoreline.”

With a live cast of two, Jason Robert Brown’s incomparable score is brought to life by Equity actress Tess Adams and Branford local Emmett Cassidy. Both veterans of the Legacy stage, Adams and Cassidy agreed that it has been incredibly special to be a part of this show. “The story itself is compelling, captivating, and one that highlights the impacts that passion, ambition, insecurity, and personal fulfillment can have on a relationship, ” said Cassidy, who plays Jamie Wellerstein. “Under the remarkably exquisite direction of Keely Baisden Knudsen and Matthew Harrison, and working alongside the profoundly talented Tess Adams, I am certain we have created a genuinely beautiful production of The Last Five Years. It has been the most wonderful of joys working with each person involved.”

Adams, who made her Broadway debut in Les Miserables at the age of 7, plays opposite Cassidy as the unparalleled Cathy Hiatt. “The Last Five Years is Jason Robert Brown’s musical craftsmanship at its finest,” said Adams. “There are hundreds of little clues hidden in the music of this score, which tells a story of its own without the additions of the actors. It has been a great joy to discover some of those hidden clues and I’m looking forward to letting our audiences in on some of the secrets.”

The Legacy Theatre invites you to partake in this remarkable tale of love and loss all month long at their newly restored venue in Stony Creek, CT. Masks are strongly recommended. Legacy’s Mainstage Series is sponsored in part by WSHU Public Radio.
