Obituary: Raymond W. Beavis, 82, of Branford

An Army veteran stationed in South Korea on the DMZ, he was an ironworker, jack of all trades, car enthusiast & Thunder Rods Car Club member

Raymond W. Beavis of Branford died Sunday February 19, 2023 at the V. A. Medical Center in West Haven.

Raymond was born in New Haven November 4, 1940, son of the late Rudolph H. and Helen Kowalski Beavis. He served in the U. S. Army and was stationed in South Korea along the DMZ. He was an iron worker for many years for Locals 15 and 424. Ray was a car enthusiast and belonged to the Thunder Rods Car Club with whom he participated in many car cruises. He was a skilled welder and mechanic. He knew how to do numerous things including plumbing, gardening, and electrical. He was always there to give a helping hand.

Ray is survived by his children, Debra (David) Clem of Wallingford, Denis (Yaya) Beavis of East Haven, Daniel Beavis of Wallingford and Shannon (Damon) Bender of Valley Cottage, NY; his grandchildren, Zachary, Matthew and Taylor Clem and Jacob, Madison and Lucas Bender; and his sister Mona Beavis, with whom he resided. He was predeceased by his son Darren Beavis.

Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation, Friday evening from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at the W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main Street, Branford, and may attend a funeral service Saturday morning at 10:00 in Trinity Episcopal Church, 1109 Main Street, on-the-green in Branford. Burial will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery.
