Person Struck, Killed By Amtrak Train In Branford

An Amtrak spokesperson told Patch an Acela train from Boston to Wash. D.C. struck a person on the tracks at around 7 a.m. Wednesday.

BRANFORD, CT —An Amtrak Acela train traveling southbound from Boston to Washington, D.C. struck a person on the tracks in Branford at around 7 a.m., an Amtrak spokesperson told Patch.

Earlier, Branford police Deputy Chief John Alves and fire Chief Thomas Mahoney confirmed that a person was struck and killed and that both agencies were working with Amtrak on the investigation.

Amtrak spokesperson Jason Abrams said the train " came into contact with a trespasser on the tracks in Branford." He said that there were "no reported injuries from the passengers on board or the crew."

After a two-hour delay, the train was "on the move" just before 9 a.m.

"Amtrak is working with local officials and cooperating with the investigation," Abrams said.
