PETA Offering $5K Reward In Branford 'Dog-Dumping' Case

The underweight, neglected dog was abandoned late Saturday night in Branford. He was found the next morning suffering from severe frostbite.

BRANFORD, CT — Lincoln is feeling better, but whoever left the dog to die on the street on one of the coldest days of the year so far, may end up being identified now that PETA has offered a $5,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person, or persons, who dumped the neglected and underweight white pit bull.

Named Lincoln by the staff at Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter, the young dog was abandoned last Saturday night shortly before midnight near the Branford Community House. A person jogging nearby on Sunday morning found the near-frozen dog.

“This dog needed veterinary care or to be taken to an animal shelter, but instead, someone abandoned him on the street with no protection as temperatures plummeted to single digits,” says PETA Vice President Colleen O’Brien. “PETA urges anyone with information about this dog to come forward immediately so that the person(s) who utterly betrayed his trust can be held accountable.”

There is also a $1,000 reward from animal law advocates Desmond's Army, the shelter noted.

Meanwhile, Laura Burban of Cosgrove animal shelter says Lincoln is healing but not ready for adoption.

Burban and the staff at Dan Cosgrove want people who have pets that they cannot care for to know there is help.

"We want people to know if you are feeling overwhelmed and can no longer care for your animal - call us at 203-315-4125," the Facebook post reads. "While we cannot take in every animal that needs placement , we will help you by providing resource guidance on other facilities and organizations to reach out to."
