Rooster Rescue: A Plucky Bird, But No Match For Predators When Left To Fend For Itself In The Woods

BRANFORD, CT — Staff at the Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter have effected countless animal rescues over the years. Mainly cats and dogs, but on occasion, unusual pets, farm animals, or animals in their natural habitats, albeit displaced. Turtles, a dwarf bunny, a red-tailed hawk, a cormorant, a couple of goats, and more.

Last week, it was Frankie Valli. A rooster.

On June 9, the shelter took to Facebook to share its most recent rescue.

"Yesterday we spent over an hour at the Supply Pond trying to catch a rooster who was abandoned in the woods. Thank you to the concerned people who reached out.

To the humans who dumped you there as coyote food, hold tight. Karma is coming.

But for now this handsome boy, whom we’ve affectionately named Frankie Valli, is singing away at the animal shelter.

He will be up for adoption if anyone is looking."

Patch reached out to shelter director Laura Burban to check on Frankie's status.

"Frankie is still with us! We are hoping to get some applications for him and hopefully find him a home."

Burban said Frankie "looks fairly young—under a year."

She described the cock-a-doodler as eggs-specially friendly, too!
