In Widely Shared Cosgrove Animal Shelter Plea For Homes, 3 Dogs Long For Life Outside Kennel
Freddy, a hound mix, is desperate to get out of the shelter that's been his home for more than 9 months. Same for Rasputia and Ollie.
BRANFORD, CT—Saying it desperately needs help sharing far and wide, the Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter noted the urgency as three dogs who have lived for "many, many" months inside the refuge are "going kennel crazy." Forlorn and begging for a family and to be loved.
In its heartbreaking Facebook post, DCAS shared the details on each dog including their own trauma.
Freddy is a 50-pound hound mix from a hoarding case. Freddy has been with us almost 9 months. He is going kennel crazy. Freddy's difficulties are that once he’s in a home he becomes protective over his people if new people come in. We think because of the hoarding house that he came from... Freddy has trauma from it. For now Freddy should just be put in a crate or a separate room if guests come over so he feels safe. But Freddy is working with a trainer, and that trainer will go to his new adoptive home as well. Freddy is 5 years old and would prefer a home with kids 14 years and older and as an only pet, although he does like other dogs. He needs to just be loved and understand about the world in a positive way.

Rasputia is also a hound mix with maybe a pittie. She, like Freddy, is going kennel crazy and has been in a kennel setting for about 6 months. Rasputia has a torn ACL, which we will pay for to fix, but she needs a home to heal in. Rasputia would be best as an only pet, although she does seem to like dogs too but needs a quiet environment to heal in. Older children would be better too. She is about 3 years old and 60 pounds.
And then there's Ollie. Another hound mix, he's 7 years old. His family gave him up because they were having another baby, and he pulls on the leash. After 7 years, they didn’t want to deal with it anymore. Ollie misses family life so much and is just so sad and overwhelmed. He has been here for 3 months. He would prefer a home as an only pet.
