Stabbing Investigated At Bridgeport Construction Site; Arrest Made: Police

BRIDGEPORT, CT — A 32-year-old man was injured early Tuesday when he was stabbed in the abdomen by a co-worker during an incident at a construction site in Bridgeport, according to police.

The victim is being treated at Bridgeport Hospital for injuries that are not considered to be a threat to his life, said Shawnna White, the city's public information officer.

A 27-year-old Bronx, New York man was arrested in connection with the stabbing.

The incident began when Bridgeport police were called to the construction site on Stratford Avenue at about 6:45 a.m.

The suspect, Jose Antonio Menivar-Ramirez, had fled in car after the incident.

He was taken custody at around 7 a.m. by the Connecticut State Police near Exit 25 southbound on Interstate 95 after receiving a description of the car from the Bridgeport Police.

Menivar-Ramirez was charged with second-degree assault and second-degree breach of peace. He is being held in lieu of bail of $50,000.

Police said that Menivar-Ramirez received a minor injury to his face during his attack on the victim.

"The knife used in the stabbing was recovered by officers underneath a dumpster at the construction site, which is where a hotel is being built on the East Side near the intersection of Stratford Avenue and East Main Street," Det. Jeffrey Holtz wrote in a statement.

Initial reports said the stabbing took place at Bass Pro Shops, not the construction site.

Holtz added that according to statements, the assault "resulted from an ongoing dispute between the two construction workers."
