10 Priests Added To Bridgeport Diocese Abuse Allegation List
The Diocese of Bridgeport has added 10 more priests to its list of "credibly accused" priests.
BRIDGEPORT, CT — The Catholic Diocese of Bridgeport has added 10 priests to its list of those credibly accused of sexually abusing minors. The list includes eight deceased priests, one retired diocesan priest who is on permanent administrative leave and one Venezuelan priest who was present in the diocese for one summer.
The diocese sexual misconduct review board recently received new allegations of abuse that date back many years, said Bishop Frank Caggiano in a letter to parishioners.
"While there are many issues associated with this crisis to be dealt with on both the global and national levels, I remain determined to move forward with whatever tangible steps are possible to address this grave matter in the Diocese of Bridgeport," Caggiano said.

The diocese hired retired Superior Court Judge Robert Holzberg and a team to review all diocesan files related to sexual abuse of minors by clergy dating back to 1953. Holzberg projects the work won't be done until at least June 30.
A confidential hotline has been established for those wishing to report past sexual abuse of minors along with how the diocese responded. The number is 1-833-990-0004 and online reports can be made here. Any new allegations must be reported to civil authorities.
