6 Bridgeport Schools Face Closure After Being Deemed Unsafe: District
Schools Superintendent Carmela Levy-David made the recommendation in a presentation on Wednesday.
BRIDGEPORT, CT — Six Bridgeport schools face the possibility of being closed permanently, after Superintendent Carmela Levy-David said Wednesday that they are unsafe.

safety, delivering high-quality education, and responsible stewardship of taxpayers' dollars," Levy-David wrote in a statement. "Many of the schools facing closure have significant safety issues, are drastically underperforming academically, and cannot be brought up to basic standards without substantial financial investments, when other buildings are equipped with space for students."
Levy-David is recommending shuttering the following schools:

- Bridgeport Learning Center
- Bryant School
- Edison School
- Hall School
- Paul Laurence Dunbar School
- Wilbur Cross School
In total, the schools serve about 1,400 pre-K through 8th grade students. Those students will be absorbed by other schools, with "minimal disruption" to their education.
Some staff positions will be eliminated, as a result of the closures, though the district has not disclosed specifics.
Last May, Bridgeport broke ground on a new Bassick High School, which is slated for completion in August 2025.
Under a proposed timeline, BLC, Edison School and Hall School would be the first ones closed in June.
Wilbur Cross School and Paul Laurence Dunbar School would be closed in August 2025, and Bryant School would be closed in June 2026.
