Bridgeport Man Charged In Attempted Robbery Of Stamford Business: Police (patch.com) — Bridgeport residents may want to know that a 40-year-old city man already jailed in connection with a Fairfield armed robbery is now facing additional charges tied to an attempted robbery in Stamford. Police say coordinated work between Stamford and Fairfield investigators linked him to both incidents, leading to multiple firearms and robbery charges and a $500,000 bond while he awaits a June court date.    

2. Bridgeport Looks To Build New Elementary School At Abandoned High School Site: Report (patch.com) — Bridgeport is considering a $132 million plan to build a new elementary school on the long-vacant former Harding High School site in the East End, which has suffered repeated fires. City leaders are seeking substantial state funding this legislative session, with the school expected to serve students from Beardsley, Edison and Hall elementary schools.    

3. Plea hearing set for ex-CT school construction chief Kosta Diamantis in 2nd corruption trial (ncadvertiser.com) — A major federal corruption case tied to Connecticut school construction is returning to Bridgeport, with a change-of-plea hearing for former state official Kosta Diamantis set Monday afternoon at Bridgeport federal court. Diamantis, already convicted in a separate bribery case, now faces additional charges linked to alleged bribe-taking to halt a Medicaid fraud probe involving a former lawmaker’s fiancé.    

4. More ticks are being found in Connecticut this year (stamfordadvocate.com) — Bridgeport residents are part of a statewide surge in tick activity, with scientists once collecting 800 ticks during a single 2022 visit to the city. Experts say warmer weather and more animal hosts are driving higher tick numbers earlier in the season, and they urge residents to use repellant, check themselves and pets carefully, and submit ticks for testing if they’re bitten.    

5. Trumbull student celebrates Ivy League acceptances; credits his single mother (nbcconnecticut.com) — A Bridgeport resident attending Trumbull schools through Connecticut’s Open Choice program has earned acceptances to three Ivy League universities, crediting his single mother’s sacrifices and support. He’s been deeply involved in Scouts, music, and youth leadership in Trumbull and now plans to pursue pediatric surgery with a minor in history.
