Perhaps POES'poetic piece ANNABEL LEE is based upon a woman he once loved but lost due to a severe illness but after her death POE suffered the anquish and the heartbreak of the loss of his true love.HE may not have accepted her death but in reality it was true she was gone from his arms no longer would she hold his hand and walk the beach.NO longer was she his partner for life.I think he wrote this poem for someone and perhaps he loved someone named ANNABEL LEE.OR perhaps in creating a character for the poem ANNABEL LEE became more than a name in a stanza,more than just part of his prose,perhaps she was a symbol of his own creativity and he fell in love with the character.POES' poems and stories inspire deep thinking so perhaps he took the secret of who ANNABEL LEE really was to his grave and we will never know the truth of why this piece was written.Only POE would know the truth but it lies with him within the confines of his tomb.
