Author Ann Leary to Speak at Breast Cancer Luncheon
St. Vincent's SWIM Across the Sound will host its 21st Annual Breast Cancer Luncheon on October 27 at the Holiday Inn in Bridgeport.
St. Vincent's SWIM Across the Sound will host its 21st Annual Breast Cancer Luncheon on October 27, 2016 at the Holiday Inn in Bridgeport. New York Times best-selling and critically acclaimed author Ann Leary will speak at the Luncheon, which will begin with a silent auction at 10:00 am, followed by a Champagne Lunch at 12:00 pm. Joining her will be Corrine Edgar of Southport, a breast cancer survivor who has benefited from the support services offered by the SWIM.
Ann Leary is the author of the 2013 New York Timesbest-selling novel, The Good House, which is currently in development for a feature film produced by Tribeca Productions and Filmnation. She also is the author of the novel Outtakes from a Marriage (2008) and the memoir, An Innocent, A Broad (2004). Her new novel, The Children, was published in May of 2016 by St. Martins Press.

Her work has been translated into 18 languages and she has written for the New York Times, Ploughshares,National Public Radio, Redbook, and Real Simple, among other publications.
Ann and her husband Denis Leary live on a small farm in northwestern Connecticut.

All donations raised from the Luncheon will be used to fund programs to increase access to mammography and prevention services for women at risk in our community. Screening services are offered through the digital mobile mammography coach as well as the Breast Health Center. The SWIM also provides wigs, prostheses, medical assistance, free transportation to treatments and appointments, daycare scholarships, and support groups and services. Thanks to the money raised, more women will receive financial assistance during a time of significant hardship.
Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in women and the most frequently diagnosed cancer in women, with one out of eight women facing breast cancer over the course of her life. In 2016, an estimated 246,660 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed and more than 40,450 will die from the disease.
