Bridgeport Cop Charged With Sex Assault

A police officer who has been arrested twice before was charged with sexual assault recently.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — A Bridgeport police officer and Shelton resident was arrested recently for sexual assault. Steven Figueroa, 29, was arrested after a domestic violence incident on June 29.

"Further investigation revealed that Figueroa sexually assaulted the same victim from that night," said Detective Richard Bango, police spokesman. "An arrest warrant was subsequently applied for and granted."

He was released on a $75,000 bond and is charged with first-degree sex assault.

Figueroa was also arrested twice in 2016 and 2017 on domestic violence charges. At that time he was charged with stalking, harassment and breach of peace, including an incident where he broke his girlfriend's car's window.

The department has placed Figueroa on administrative leave pending the results of an internal affairs investigation, NBC Connecticut reported.
