Bridgeport Hospital Penalized Over Infections, Injuries: Report

While Bridgeport Hospital was found to be deficient for high infection rates and other problems, another local hospital was not penalized.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — Bridgeport Hospital is one of 15 Connecticut hospitals that will lose 1 percent of its Medicare payments in 2018 due to high infection rates and injuries, reports the Connecticut Health Investigative Team.

The penalties are part of a four-year-old federal program under the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, a government watchdog group that is part of the Affordable Care Act, writes CT Health I-Team.

Bridgeport Hospital, like five other Connecticut hospitals, has been penalized in each of the past four years. St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport, however, is one of eight Connecticut hospitals that has never been penalized under the four-year program.
