Bridgeport Man Arrested On Illegal Weapons Charges In Waterbury: Police

Authorities found a 9mm handgun in the suspect's possession.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — A 21-year-old Bridgeport man was arrested on illegal weapons charges Tuesday in Waterbury, according to Waterbury police.

During a traffic stop in the area of East Main Street and Meriden Road, police said that Jonathan Celestin had a 9mm Smith & Wesson M&P handgun in his possession. Waterbury police pulled him over because his 2010 Lexus IS250 was unregistered.

Celestin lacks a valid firearm permit, and was charged with the following:

• Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended Registration

Celestin is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

"The Waterbury Police Department remains committed to proactive enforcement efforts and ensuring the continued safety of our community," officials said in a statement.
