Bridgeport Man Indicted On Weapons, Drug Charges

A convicted felon is facing drug and weapons violation charges that could land him a hefty prison sentence.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — A city man has been indicted on firearms and narcotics charges, according to a statement from federal prosecutors. Lynwood Codgell, 32, was charged with two counts of possession of narcotics with intent to distribute, two counts of possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking, and two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

He appeared in court Monday to plead not guilty to those charges, which could land him in prison for decades.

In 2016, Codgell pleaded guilty to one count of possessing of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was sentenced to 36 months of imprisonment and three years of supervise for that offense and released in June 2018.

While on supervised release, Cogdell possessed heroin, which he intended to distribute, along with fentanyl and two .40 caliber semi-automatic pistols, according to a statement from prosecutors.

Cogdell has been detained since his arrest on April 15.

This matter is being investigated by the U.S. Marshals Service, Stamford Police Department, Bridgeport Police Department, and Connecticut State Police. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Lauren C. Clark.
