Bridgeport Man Raped Guilford Woman He Helped in a Storm: Cops

The suspect agreed to let a Guilford woman wait out a storm at his home, then he repeatedly raped her, police said.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — A 42-year-old Bridgeport man was arrested this week on charges he repeatedly raped a Guilford woman he helped during a storm in February 2015, according to police.

The Connecticut Post reports that Jefferson Sumpter, the supposed "Good Samaritan," was charged with:

  • First-degree Sexual Assault
  • Second-degree Strangulation
  • First-degree Unlawful Restraint

Police said that during the alleged attack, Sumpter choked the woman and ripped off her clothing, and told the woman he loved her.

He is being held in lieu of a $500,000 bond. His court date was not immediately known.
