Bridgeport Man Shoplifts from Milford Business, Runs from Cops: Police

Milford police said they responded to the shoplifting complaint on Tuesday.

MILFORD, CT — A man is accused of shoplifting from a Milford business and then running away from police officers which led to a brief foot chase, police said.

Police said on Tuesday officers responded to the area of Route 1 and Forest Road on a report of a shoplifting that had just occurred at 230 Cherry Street, Total Wines & More.

Officers made contact with Robert George, 26, of High Ridge Road in Bridgeport, who was pointed out by store staff as the shoplifter, police said.

While trying to identify George, he gave officers a false name and tried to flee on foot, running from officers, police said.

George was apprehended a short time later in the parking lot of Howard Johnson's hotel and he also had an arrest warrant out of Bridgeport too, police said.

He is charged with interfering and resisting arrest. He was released on a promise to appear in Superior Court, Milford on Sept. 13.
