17-Year-Old Arrested In Fatal Delivery Driver Shooting In Bridgeport

The fatal shooting occurred Saturday night near Boston and Palisades avenues in Bridgeport, according to police.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — A 17-year-old boy has been arrested on murder and related charges in connection with the fatal shooting of 36-year-old Flushing, New York, man, who was shot and killed Saturday night in Bridgeport while he was delivering Chinese food, according to Bridgeport police.

The identity of the juvenile has not been released, but he was charged with the following:

  • Murder
  • First-degree criminal attempt-robbery
  • Murder in commission of a felony

The fatal shooting occurred at about 7:25 p.m., and police were notified of the incident via a ShotSpotter gunshot detection and numerous calls that a person had been shot.

"Police officers, along with AMR Ambulance medics, responded to the area and located an unresponsive 36-year-old Flushing NY man lying on the ground next to an apartment building at 1525 Boston Avenue," Bridgeport Police Capt. Kevin Gilleran wrote in a statement. "The victim, a Chinese food delivery driver, suffered numerous gunshot wounds and was pronounced deceased at the scene."

Gilleran said that within minutes of the ShotSpotter notification, Officer Sorie Kamara "engaged an armed 17-year-old suspect in foot pursuit on Tudor Street. The juvenile suspect was quickly apprehended by Officer Kamara and placed under arrest."

Detectives investigating the shooting collected ballistic and other evidence at the scene.

"The investigation produced strong leads with the 17-year-old Bridgeport teen becoming a strong person of interest," Gilleran said. "On March 4, 2023, the juvenile suspect was charged by the Patrol Division with Interfering with a Police Officer, Assault on a Police Officer, and Carrying a Pistol without a Permit."

The shell casings collected at the murder scene matched the ballistics of the firearm recovered from the 17-year-old suspect, according to Gilleran, which led to the additional charges against the suspect.

Bridgeport police were able to match the ballistics because the department is directly connected to the ATF’s National Integrated Ballistics Information Network, according to Gilleran.

"This computer system takes detailed [3-D] images of spent shell casings and puts them into a national database with other ballistic images," he said.

The juvenile is being held in lieu of bail of $3 million, according to authorities.

"Our sincerest condolences go out to the family and friends of the victim," Gilleran said.
