Bridgeport Police Increase Patrols At Mosques, Synagogues

The department is tightening security at mosques and synagogues in light of tensions between Israel and Iran.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — While stressing that "there are currently no known threats," the Bridgeport Police Department announced over the weekend that it is increasing patrols around the city's synagogues and mosques in light of the tensions between Israel and Iran.

"BPD reinforced a standing order for all sector cars to increase their presence around Synagogues and Mosques across the city," Bridgeport Police Chief Roderick Porter wrote on Facebook. "Your safety is our priority."

Over the weekend, Iran launched hundreds of drones and missiles at Israel in retaliation of a recent suspected bombing by Israel of the Iranian consulate in Damascus, Syria. Israeli officials said that more than 95 percent of the weapons Iran fired at Israeli were intercepted before reaching Israel.
