Bridgeport Prepares To Dig out From Major Winter Storm
Heavy snow and high winds continued Monday throughout the region.
BRIDGEPORT, CT — As Sunday's major winter storm continued on Monday, Bridgeport prepared to dig out from under mounds of snow.
Schools were closed on Monday, as was Bridgeport City Hall and several businesses.
Gov. Ned Lamont declared a State of Emergency Sunday afternoon, though power outages in Bridgeport remained at a minimum. As of 9:45 a.m. on Monday, 23 out of 62,732 customers in Bridgeport were without power, according to United Illuminating.

Statewide, more than 15,000 were without power on Monday.
In Bridgeport, officials also declared a snow emergency, and urged residents to stay off the roads.

"During a snow emergency, residents must move their cars off posted snow emergency streets and heed alternate side of street parking on all other streets," Mayor Joe Ganim wrote in a statement. "Snow emergency streets are marked with white signs with red lettering. A list of snow streets can be found on the City’s website bridgeportct.gov/snow."

Throughout the immediate area, snow totals were in excess of a foot, according to the National Weather Service, with more snow on the way on Monday.
