Bridgeport Public Schools To Host 43rd Annual Math Meet
More than 100 Bridgeport students from 22 middle schools will compete in the district's annual Math Meet this week.
BRIDGEPORT, CT — Bridgeport Public Schools will host its 43rd Annual Math Meet on Thursday, May 28, at the University of Bridgeport’s Charles A. Dana Hall, Room 107, at 169 University Ave.
The event will bring together 132 students from the district’s 22 middle schools for a timed mathematics competition focused on problem-solving and reasoning skills.
Students will use pencils and four-function calculators to complete math problems. Scores will determine individual and team rankings.

"The Math Meet is one of those events that truly brings out the best in our students," Dr. Royce Avery said in a statement. "To see students from across Bridgeport come together, challenge themselves, and support one another through academics is something special. Our students continue to show what they are capable of when they are encouraged, supported, and given opportunities to shine."
Herminio Planas said the annual event continues a longstanding district tradition.

"Holding this event each year continues a tradition that celebrates curiosity, perseverance, and the excitement of learning," Planas said in a statement. "The Math Meet gives students an opportunity to showcase their abilities while inspiring confidence and a deeper appreciation for mathematics."
According to the district, the Math Meet began in the 1980s with participation from 10 schools and has expanded to include all Bridgeport Public Schools middle schools.
The event is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will conclude with an awards ceremony recognizing top-performing students, the top three schools and the district’s most improved school. A championship banner awarded to the first-place team also will be presented.
