Bridgeport School Board Selects Firm To Lead Superintendent Search

BRIDGEPORT, CT — The Bridgeport School Board has selected Zeal Education Group, a national education consulting firm, to lead the search for the district’s next superintendent.

The search will include opportunities for public input and stakeholder engagement. Zeal will work with the school board, district leadership, staff and families to develop search criteria and provide input as the board selects a superintendent.

Currently, the post is held on an interim basis by Dr. Royce Avery. He took over the role after the departure of Dr. Carmela Levy-David in December 2024.

"The Board is committed to a transparent, community-informed search to identify the best leader for our students and the future of Bridgeport Public Schools," school board Chair Jennifer Perez said.

She added, "Partnering with Zeal will help us attract exceptional candidates who reflect the values and priorities of our schools and community, and we look forward to engaging all stakeholders throughout this process."

Notice of the vacancy will begin immediately. The board’s goal is to identify a new superintendent by Dec. 1, 2026, with the selected candidate scheduled to start July 1, 2027.
