Bridgeport Store Owner Pleads Guilty To Tax Charge

He embezzled funds from a business he co-owned with his father.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — A Bridgeport grocery store owner pleaded guilty after he embezzled money from the family business.

Samir Fattah, 55, of Oxford co-owned the Abu-Goush Market with his father. During 2011, 2013 and 2014 he embezzled more than $213,000 by depositing cash from the business into his personal bank account, according to the U.S. Attorney District of Connecticut office.

He pleaded guilty to one count of filing a false tax return.

His father had no idea that money was being embezzled.

He faces up to three years in prison and up to a $100,000 fine. He agreed to pay the U.S. Treasury more than $54,000 for taxes he failed to pay.
