Bridgeport Strikes Settlement In Cop Beating Lawsuit
The city has reached a settlement with a man in connection with a 2017 incident.
BRIDGEPORT, CT — The city will pay more than $340,000 to a man who a video shows was beaten by police officers in a 2017 incident, The Connecticut Post reported. An investigation by the city's Office of Internal Affairs found that 17 police officers and two civilian detention officers used excessive force in the incident at a Colorado Avenue home.
The $342,500 settlement for Carmelo Mendez will need to be approved by the City Council. There are three other lawsuits being brought against the city in connection with the case, according to The Post.
