Where does one start when talking about BRIDGEPORT,CT.?There is so much to talk about.AS time progresses even today are city is going through so many vital changes. Our former downtown area is being revitalized I guess.Where the former KAYES ' DEPARTMENT store once stood is part of the historical section along with the former H.L.GREENS,as well. There was talk about redoing THE LOEWS POLI over as well as THE MAJESTIC where these projects stand I do not know.WILL these monumental buildings ever get a makeover is anyones'guess.TO my knowledge the theaters belong to the CITY OF BRIDGEPORT.Lots of talk not much action.I hope in my lifetime I get to see the theaters revitalized back somewhat how they were so many years ago.
So many good memories about the former theaters.I miss seeing the marquees with their dazzling lights and looking at the large letters telling all what movie is now showing.AH indeed those were the days.I remember the fresh smell of popcorn in the front area and the variety of candy choices. For just a couple of bucks you had a world of entertainment.AS a movie patron you normaly would see two movies,a news reel, plus cartoons.Todays movie complexes are nice but don't have the glamour like those of yesteryear. The movie industry has changed so much.Bridgeport years ago was a movie going community.WE have tv with so many movie choices thanks to cable and movie rentals everywhere so the movie business isn't the same as the FOURTHIES AND THE FIFTHIES.WE are a different society.Perhaps one day the city will revitalize THE POLI as well as THE MAJESTIC and once more we can enjoy a part of our past once more as we move towards the 21st CENTURY.
