BRIDGEPORT, C.T. - Bridgeport City Councilmember Marcus Brown at tonight's Trumbull Democratic Town Committee meeting announced his candidacy for State Senate in Connecticut's 22nd District. Elected to the Bridgeport City Council in 2017, Brown has been an energetic voice, a champion of change, and an outspoken advocate for underrepresented communities in Bridgeport.

One of the hallmarks of Brown's service on the City Council has been the investigation of predatory WPCA foreclosure practices, a charge he led, which resulted in structural reform, a moratorium on foreclosures, and the creation of mediation programs. He was also instrumental in the passage of a new property tax relief program for seniors and Tobacco 21, which bans the sale of tobacco products to those under 21 years of age.

"The people of Connecticut's 22nd State Senate District have been fighting for their fair share for too long," said Marcus Brown. "We need a voice in the State Senate that will fight for the equity in education, property tax relief, and investments in housing that our district needs and deserves. I promise to be that voice. As the product of public housing and an underfunded education system, I believe that I'm the right person to lead on these issues."

"While hundreds of millions of state dollars are being spent on a bailout for Hartford, our schools remain severely underfunded and our communities are deprived of much-needed state investments. I plan to bring my record of effective leadership and cooperation to the State Senate for the benefit of the 22nd District," Brown concluded.
Brown currently serves as President Pro-Tempore of the Bridgeport City Council and Co-Chair of the Ordinance Committee. Brown is a life-long resident of Bridgeport and graduate of Central High School.
