Christmas in Bridgeport at one time was so special. The downtown area was decorated with Christmas decor .IT created a wonderful spirit in the air.People shopped all the stores running about grabbing bargains up .Then it was a different community. There was no malls and everyone shopped for groceries as well as other items right here in our downtown .WE met our friends there, chatted, shared stories over a cup of cocoa or coffee in WALGREENS.Part of the holiday celebration was the tree lighting outside the stairwell of the CABARET building with hosts from W.I.C.C.This made everyones'holiday special. What happened to those days??WE do not decorate the streets making way to a festive celebration of any kind.I sure miss all that activity.Today as I stroll downtown during the holidays there is no holiday atmosphere or a feeling of kindness or holiday spirits of any nature.IF we could turn back the clock to the 50's boy what a difference compared to today.Gone forever is the celebration of the lighted tree, the community uniting as one to celebrate the best holiday of the year.
