City Of Bridgeport VA Office To Provide Free Shuttle Service To 'Stand Down' Event At Port 5
The event is scheduled for 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26.

City of Bridgeport officials announce that the Bridgeport Office of Veterans Affairs is participating in the DVA annual “Stand Down” events tomorrow, September 25th, 2020, at Port 5 National Association of Naval Veterans in Bridgeport at 69 Brewster Street from 8am to 2pm. In an effort to be sure that veterans have access to the offering of services and resources at Stand Down, the Bridgeport Office of Veterans Affairs will provide a free shuttle to Port 5 in Bridgeport from their main office, 752 East Main Street.

Stand Down at Port 5 will consist of in-person sessions to provide supportive services for Veterans and their families, Federal VA benefits, housing and homeless services, State Department of Labor, employment and vocational resources, Veteran caregiver support, legal assistance, and education resources. Free COVID-19 testing and flu shots will be provided. Port 5 will be staffed by CT Bar Association, DVA, Bridgeport Office of Veterans Affairs and Homes for the Brave members.
Mayor Ganim stated, “We appreciate everything that our local and state Veterans Affairs offices do to support individuals that have served our country. Bridgeport is very proud to be a host city of this year’s regional Stand Down and we hope that our local veterans are able to enjoy the event, and find value in the services provided.”

Stand Down has offered outreach events to connect Veterans to programs and benefits for nearly three decades.
