Fairfield Police Make Arrests in String of Car Break-Ins

Two Bridgeport men have been charged in connection to more than 20 car burglaries that occurred overnight Monday into Tuesday.

FAIRFIELD, CT — Fairfield Police have charged two Bridgeport men in connection to at least 20 car break-ins that occurred overnight Monday into Tuesday morning.

An alert Penfield Road resident observed two men in a driveway entering a vehicle owned by the homeowner and called police around 5:40 a.m. on Tuesday, police said in a press release.

Responding officers located two men that matched the description given by the witness and they were carrying bags while walking on Penfield Road.

One suspect fled on foot, while the other subject was detained, police said.

The fleeing subject was located hiding in a garbage can in the rear of the YMCA on the Old Post Road.

Investigation revealed the two subjects were responsible for entering at least 20 vehicles during the early morning hours, from the general area of Penfield Road in Fairfield, police said.

Numerous pieces of property were recovered during the investigation.

The estimated total value of the stolen property is $2,500, including $226 in cash and $172 in loose change, police said.

Tymel Luke Thompson, 22, was arrested on charges of third-degree burglary, conspiracy to commit third-degree burglary, fourth-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit fourth-degree larceny and possession of burglary tools.

Carlos Juan Ortiz, 26, was arrested and charged with third-degree burglary, conspiracy to commit third-degree burglary, fourth-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit fourth-degree larceny and possession of burglary tools.

Both were held on a $25,000 bond and arraigned Tuesday morning in Bridgeport Superior Court.
