Fire Damages Bridgeport Rooming House; 8 Tenants, 2 Dogs Displaced: FD

The fire broke out early Monday in the 100 block of West Liberty Street in Bridgeport.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — A rooming house fire in the 100 block of West Liberty Street in Bridgeport damaged the three-story structure to the point that its eight tenants and two dogs have been temporarily displaced, according to Scott Appleby, director of Bridgeport's Office of Emergency Management.

No injuries were reported in the blaze, which was reported at about 1:30 a.m.

Smoke had filled up a room on the second floor of the home, and when Bridgeport firefighters arrived, found fire on the second floor that extended to the third floor of the three-story dwelling

"One occupant was evacuated by ladder," Appleby said in a statement. "All others self-evacuated."

The cause of the fire is under investigation, and the Red Cross is assisting the displaced tenants and dogs.
