''Her Majesty -'' ''The Majestic Theater''

A Piece Of BRIDGEPORTS'-History

The lights of her marquee no longer shine as a invite to one of BRIDGEPORTS' finest theaters. The MAJESTICS' last curtain call known was in 1971 with the closing of its'doors never to be resurrected from a death of decay. Now it sits in ruins a long cry from a once much talked about $40,000,000 renovation that disappeared. How pitiful that the once beautiful theater now sits in ruins like a bomb shelled war zone. The once so beautiful painted murals peeling away along with seats filled with dust and dirt destroying the once so glamorous 2246 seats that at one time were filled with movie goers anxious to see the latest films from HOLLYWOOD.

The interior now would no doubt require millions in renovations to restore its'lavious beauty somewhat like it was back in the day.Now it sits with a unknown destiny. The MAJESTIC is the sister theater to THE LOEWS'POLI a few doors apart were both the focal point on MAIN STREET in downtown with both their marquees aglow always ready to bring us the finest films.NOW as time passes they both wait their destinies.

I remember so well as though it were just yesterday the ticket window ,the beautiful steps leading into the theater ,the plush seats, the rich carpeting ,the beautiful murals that added that special touch.I remember mostly the rich chandeliers sparkling above my head caught my undivided attention as I sat there awaiting the theater to grow dark and the curtains to part and bring to the audience the latest;film from HOLLYWOOD.I also remember the cartoons and the news reels and of course the previews of upcoming movies.

NOW her MAJESTY THE MAJESTIC sits idle decaying ,similar to a sunken ship never to open again its'seats never to be filled again ,its'movie equipment never to focus the HOLLYWOOD STUDIOS latest film.ITS'just another piece of BRIDGEPORTS'history that once stood here as a-real mega-entertainment center.NO longer is MAIN STREET the center of attraction but a mix of blighted buildings with unknown destinies.
