Homeless Man In Critical Condition After Beating In Bridgeport: PD

The assault occurred Wednesday night on Fairfield Avenue, according to Bridgeport police.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — A 49-year-old homeless man remains in critical condition Thursday after Bridgeport police said he was assaulted by an unknown assailant Wednesday night.

The incident occurred at about 9:15 p.m. in the 800 block of Fairfield Avenue.

First on the scene were members of the Bridgeport Fire Department, who found the victim "suffering from severe trauma to his face and the back of his head."

Police and emergency medical personnel arrived soon after, and the man was transported to an area hospital.

"The Detective Bureau has responded and taken over the investigation," Bridgeport Police Capt. Kevin Gilleran wrote in a statement. "There are reports of an argument between the victim and one other unidentified person who left the scene prior to 1st responder’s arrival (unknown description/unknown direction of travel)."
