Housatonic Community College Hosts Fundraiser for Ukraine on April 23

Craft fair, art auction & culturally immersive event - part of HCC's efforts to raise awareness and support for the people of Ukraine.

On Saturday, April 23 Housatonic Community College (HCC) will host a fundraiser for Ukraine featuring a craft fair, art auction and culturally immersive event.

The fundraiser, which will take place from 11am – 2:30pm, will feature live performances, craft sales, pierogi sales and activities for children. All activities will take place in the HCC campus courtyard, located at 900 Lafayette Blvd., in Bridgeport. A $2 donation is encouraged and all proceeds will go to help the people of Ukraine. Free parking is available and the community is encouraged to attend.

The event is just the latest initiative of the College to raise awareness and support for the people of Ukraine. Last month, HCC held a panel discussion entitled Stand With Ukraine. The discussion provided an historical understanding of Ukraine/Russian relations and featured speakers Dr. Scott Moore, Associate Professor of History at Eastern Connecticut State University, HCC Student Yuliya Feduniv, HCC Professor Dr. Larisa Rowe, and Reverend Ivan Mazuryk, Pastor of the Protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a Ukrainian Catholic Church located in Bridgeport.

“We stand in solidarity with the Ukrainian people in their heroic fight for democracy. In times of crisis, higher education is a place for critical reflection and for fostering debate. Members of the college community across the nation, including here at Housatonic, are directly affected by the Russian army’s invasion of Ukraine,” said Dr. Dwayne Smith, CEO of Housatonic Community College.

Housatonic is also gathering donations to provide humanitarian aid for Ukraine. Donations include tactical/medical supplies and hospital needs such as backpacks, bandages and antibiotic ointment.
