Jury Deadlocked in Case Against Bridgeport Man Accused of Killing His Ex-Girlfriend

A mistrial was declared for the second time in a year in the murder, dismemberment case.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — For the second time in a year, a mistrial has been declared in the case against a Bridgeport man charged with killing and dismembering a 20-year-old West Haven woman in 2013.

The Connecticut Post reports a Bridgeport Superior Court jury was deadlocked after deliberating for eight and a half days on the case against Jermaine Richards and the judge said she had no choice but to declare a mistrial.

Richards, 33, is accused of murdering Alyssiah Wiley, a student at Eastern Connecticut State University, who was last seen getting into his car outside her dorm on April 19, 2013. Earlier that day, Wiley had texted friends that she had broken up with Richards after four years of dating, according to the Post.

Her partial remains were found in Trumbull about a month later.

State prosecutors requested that the judge once again put the case down for another trial, according to the Post.
