So much has been said on BARNUM.HE had accomplished so much in his lifetime.Everyone relates the circus with him of course.HE was the founder of THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH,entertained millions of people over the years.AS early as 19 years of age he married Charity Hallett and were together 44 years.AT age 22 he was the publisher of his own newspaper THE HERALD OF FREEDOM.INDEED always a showman .HE-went on to be mayor of BRIDGEPORT FROM 1875 -1876.IN 1874 Barnum opened what was known as his ROMAN HIPPODROME-in NEW YORK.HE partnered with JAMES A.BAILEY whose circus merged with BARNUMS' .JUMBO the elephant was purchased from a zoo in ENGLAND FOR $70,000.and the BRITISH were not happy losing JUMBO to BARNUM.JUMBO went on to be a money producer for BARNUM.IN 1882 THE circus opened its' first season at MADISON SQUARE GARDEN.The RINGLING BROS.BARNUM AND BAILEY CIRCUS entertained millions of people for years to come.
