Local Volunteers from Sikorsky Teach Junior Achievement Programs to Students at Waltersville School in Bridgeport

Over 400 students in grades K-8 learn financial concepts through Junior Achievement programs.

Over twenty volunteers from Sikorsky Aircraft shared their time and knowledge to teach important financial concepts to over 400 students in grades K-8 at Waltersville School in Bridgeport on May 12-13th, 2016. Funding for the program was provided by Sikorsky Aircraft who has been supporting Junior Achievement for over a decade.

Volunteers taught Junior Achievement's programs that included age-appropriate interactive activities focused careers, education and economic empowerment skills.

"Outstanding! One of the best feelings I have ever experienced," said a Sikorsky volunteer when asked about her experience teaching JA at Waltersville.

Junior Achievement facilitates community-school programs where trained local business people volunteer their time in schools to teach students about a variety of topics including career and work readiness and financial literacy.

According to Bernadine Venditto, president of Junior Achievement of Western CT, “As role models, Sikorsky volunteers help young people connect the relevance of their classroom learning to their future success. They are letting students know they care, inspiring students to dream big and reach their potential all while developing competitive skills and confidence to succeed in a 21st century global marketplace.”
