Man Shot And Wounded Outside Of Birthday Party In Bridgeport: Police

The drive-by shooting occurred Friday night on Bridgeport's West Side, according to authorities.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — Bridgeport police are investigating a drive-by shooting on the city's West Side that left a 23-year-old Hamden man wounded Friday night.

The victim suffered a wound to a lower extremity and was listed in stable condition at St. Vincent's Medical Center, according to Bridgeport police.

Shortly after 10 p.m., 911 callers reported hearing gunfire near Wood Avenue and Grove Street, where a ShotSpotter activation also was recorded. ShotSpotter is a gunshot detection system.

Responding officers found four parked vehicles that had been struck by gunfire.

Minutes later, a person driving the wounded man to St. Vincent's encountered an ambulance and police vehicles several blocks away at Lexington Avenue and Grand Street and stopped. Medics evaluated the man and took him by ambulance to the hospital.

The victim said he had been attending a birthday party at a home on Grove Street. He told investigators he was standing outside with his back to the street when he was struck by gunfire from a passing vehicle.

The Bridgeport Police Department's Non-Fatal Shooting Task Force is investigating.
