From the Office of the Mayor: Mayor Joseph Ganim and Superintendent of Schools Dr. Aresta Johnson will honor the 15 educators nominated for the Theodore & Margaret Beard Excellence in Teaching Award with a recognition breakfast on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. at 999 Broad Street. The selected winners will receive the Beard award on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at the Inspiration Event being held at Holiday Inn.

This prestigious award was established in memory of the Beards to recognize and celebrate the many talented and committed teachers in the Bridgeport Public Schools. This year 15 teachers were nominated and applied for the award. The Beard Selection Committee was impressed by the caliber of the applications and the support letters that came from fellow teachers, students, parents and secretaries. These nominations are a reflection of the hundreds of teachers just like them who inspire all the students in the Bridgeport Public Schools every day.

The winners will receive their award at the annual Inspiration Event organized by the Bridgeport Public Education Fund, Inc. The winners will receive $20,000 over a three year period and be invited to join the Superintendent’s Roundtable as a teacher leader.
